US hackers tried to poison an entire city through water supplies
In the US, hackers tried to poison the city's water by increasing the content of a dangerous chemical.
The incident took place in Oldsmar, Florida. Unidentified persons hacked into the computer of a water purification company and instructed the system to increase the alkali content a hundredfold.
It is used to regulate the acidity of water. But in large doses, the chemical could poison the water and harm more than 15,000 people living in the city.
But the hacking attempt was noticed in time. The employee reported the suspicious activity of his employer, and that of the local sheriff. The FBI will now investigate.
