British strain COVID-19 is spreading very quickly across the US
In the United States, the mutated strain of coronavirus, first discovered in the UK, is spreading significantly faster than other mutations and may soon become dominant in the United States.
This is reported by The Washington Post with reference to the unpublished work of American researchers.
The virus is spreading at a rate 35-45 percent faster than other COVID-19 strains, according to a new study. To date, the state of Florida has the highest number of cases of this strain.
Scientists emphasize that the variant of the virus that appeared in the UK is more infectious and leads to more deaths and called on the US government to take urgent measures to minimize morbidity and mortality.
At the same time, researchers have confirmed that protective masks and social distancing are the best ways to limit the spread of any strain of coronavirus. They also have high hopes for vaccination, noting the effectiveness of recently developed vaccines in the fight against the British strain.
Recall, according to the latest study, the COVID-19 vaccine of the British-Swedish company AstraZeneca and the University of Oxford is ineffective against the South African strain of coronavirus, providing very limited protection against it.
