In the state of California in the U.S., the plane dropped jet fuel above the primary school site.
About 60 people were injured as a result. This was reported on the page of the fire department of the local district on Twitter.
Delta's plane was to make an emergency landing at Los Angeles International Airport, 30 km from the school and threw fuel out of the tanks to lighten its own weight.
Los Angeles County Fire Department inspector Sean Ferguson said the incident resulted in fuel being thrown from five schools. All the victims had skin irritation, but no one needed to be hospitalized.
Eyewitnesses videotaped the incident. As can be seen on the video, a light-colored substance was sprayed from the wings of the plane at low altitude.
According to the victims, the smell of aviation fuel in the air corroded the eyes of children and adults near the school. They all suffered minor injuries and did not require hospitalization.
