In Britain, a vaccine factory was evacuated due to a suspicious package
A British pharmaceutical company producing vaccines against coronavirus was forced to partially evacuate its factory because of a suspicious package.
This was reported by the AP.
The British branch of Mumbai-based pharmaceutical company Wockhardt, which makes the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine in north Wales, said it reported the receipt of the package to authorities Wednesday morning.
“On the advice of an expert, we have partially evacuated the site pending a full investigation. The safety of our employees and business continuity remain extremely important,” the company said in a statement.
North Wales police said they were dealing with an “ongoing incident” at the Wrexham Industrial Estate 68 kilometers south of Liverpool. Law enforcement officials have closed nearby roads and asked residents to avoid the area.
The Defense Department said an ammunition disposal team had been called in to assist plant management.
Wockhardt entered into an agreement with the British government reserving a production line at the Welsh plant to guarantee supplies of vaccines against COVID-19. The company recently hosted U.K. Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who proclaimed the agreement an important milestone in the U.K. vaccine distribution program.
