Farmers in Denmark will receive billions of dollars in compensation for destroyed minks
Danish authorities will pay more than $3 billion in compensation to owners of fur farms that destroyed millions of minks. In total, it was killed up to 17 million fur-bearing animals.
This is reported by The Financial Times.
As noted, Denmark was the world's largest producer of mink pelts, but the government abruptly put an end to the industry in November amid fears that a strain of coronavirus, which had mutated and passed from mink to humans, could jeopardize the effectiveness of some vaccines.
Earlier, it was reported that Danish MPs were demanding that the government rebury minks destroyed because of the coronavirus, calling them a “time bomb” that would cause serious damage to the environment.
