Merkel called Biden and invited him to Germany
German Chancellor Angela Merkel phoned US President Joe Biden. This was reported by the press service of the German government.
According to her, Merkel congratulated the American leader on the inauguration and invited him to visit Germany as soon as the situation with the coronavirus pandemic allows.
During the conversation, the Chancellor welcomed the return of the United States to the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Paris Climate Agreement. The head of the German government expressed Berlin's readiness to assume responsibility in overcoming international challenges together with European and transatlantic partners.
It is noted that the parties discussed foreign policy issues, in particular regarding Afghanistan and Iran, coronavirus, trade, and climate policy. In particular, they concluded that overcoming the pandemic will require enhanced international engagement.
During his first hour in the White House, Biden overturned a number of decisions of his predecessor, Donald Trump. In particular, he signed decrees on the return of the United States to WHO and the Paris Climate Agreement. Joe Biden was inaugurated on January 20, he became the 46th President of the United States.
