The US sends carrier group to the South China Sea
The State Department criticized the Chinese authorities for “military, diplomatic and economic pressure” on Taiwan.
The United States sent an aircraft carrier strike group led by the destroyer Theodore Roosevelt to the South China Sea, reported on January 24, Japan Times. This happened against the background of the flight of 13 Chinese aircraft in the Taiwan area.
The US Indo-Pacific Command said in a statement that the carrier strike group is “conducting planned deployment with the US 7th Fleet to ensure freedom of the seas.”
The strike team conducted “maritime security operations that include aircraft and helicopter flights, naval strike exercises and coordinated tactical training for surface and air units,” the report said.
Earlier in the State Department, he criticized the Chinese authorities for "military, diplomatic and economic pressure” on Taiwan.
The PRC and Taiwan have mutual territorial claims to each other. Most countries, including the United States, do not recognize Taiwan as a state but maintain de facto diplomatic relations.
Last fall, another exacerbation occurred between the United States and China due to territorial disputes.
As reported, the new US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, in a conversation with his Japanese counterpart Nobuo Kishi, announced Washington's intention to defend the Senkaku Islands, which China considers its territory.
