Biden plots to change Trump's immigration policy
U.S. President Joe Biden discussed plans to change the immigration policy of the administration of former White House head Donald Trump with Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador. This is reported by Reuters, citing a recording of a phone call between the two leaders.
The two leaders discussed “cooperation on a number of bilateral and regional issues, particularly regional migration.” “The [U.S.] president outlined his plan to reduce [the] scale of migration by addressing its root causes, expanding resettlement opportunities and legal alternative routes to immigration, improving the processing of asylum requests at the border, and reversing the draconian immigration policies of the previous administration,” according to a statement released by the White House.
Joe Biden was inaugurated on Jan. 20, making him the 46th president of the United States. The ceremony was attended by outgoing U.S. Vice President Mike Pence, former presidents George W. Bush, Barack Obama, and Bill Clinton and their wives. The U.S. anthem was sung by Lady Gaga. Trump ignored the ceremony, breaking a 150-year tradition, and left Washington a few hours before the festivities.
