The economic crisis in the United States caused by the coronavirus pandemic is only deepening, so drastic and urgent measures are needed, said United States President Joe Biden.
“Yesterday we learned that another 900,000 Americans have applied for unemployment benefits. We need to act, we need to act now. We need to act with courage and determination,” the president said.
According to him, the state should help citizens in these conditions, not only because it is a “moral duty”, but also because it is “an urgent economic necessity.”
As part of the assistance, the American leader signed two new decrees aimed at mitigating the effects of the pandemic on US residents. One of them concerns emergency measures for working families affected by the crisis. The second is the minimum wage for federal employees and contractors. It should be $15 per hour. They should also be granted “paid emergency leave”.
