United States President Donald Trump left the White House for the last time during his presidency.
The BBC reports.
The President, accompanied by First Lady Melania Trump, made his way to Andrews Air Force Base by helicopter for a short farewell ceremony ahead of the last presidential flight to Palm Beach.
Trump has long stated that he will not be present at the inauguration of the new president. By doing this, he broke a long tradition.
The last US president to miss the inauguration of his successor was Andrew Johnson, who was also impeached and served one term immediately after the assassination of Abraham Lincoln.
The inauguration ceremony will be attended by Vice President Mike Pence, who, according to American media, will not attend Trump's farewell ceremony.
As you know, on January 20, the inauguration of US President-elect Joe Biden will take place. Due to the coronavirus pandemic and heightened security measures, the ceremony will be unlike any previous in American history.
