Merkel announced the extension of restrictive measures in Germany

German Chancellor Angela Merkel announced that the German authorities had decided to extend the restrictive measures regime until February 14.

“We negotiated again today and agreed to introduce new measures... We are doing this as a precaution for the health of citizens, as well as for the sake of the economy and the labor market... We have agreed that all measures that were calculated until January 31 should be extended until February 14,” Merkel said.

Earlier, the Robert Koch Institute reported that more than 1 million people in Germany had been vaccinated with the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine against the coronavirus.

On January 9, Merkel stated that the next weeks of winter will be the most severe phase of the pandemic.
