Chinese electric car manufacturer Xpeng Motors announced a new autonomous driving feature for electric cars. With this, it decided to challenge competitors such as Tesla, writes CNBC.
The feature, dubbed Navigation Guided Pilot (NGP), will allow the flagship P7 sedan to automatically change lanes, accelerate or decelerate, as well as overtake cars and take the highway. Drivers will be alerted when they need to take control of the car, such as during adverse weather conditions or an accident.
Xpeng is a Chinese electric car startup. Deliveries of the Xpeng P7 sedan, a direct competitor to the Tesla Model 3, began last June. The company sold 27,000 cars in 2020.
Earlier it became known that a new major player will appear in the Chinese electric car market. Local Internet giant Baidu has agreed with automaker Geely to create an autonomous division. Baidu has its own map application and DuerOS voice assistant technology. They can be integrated into the car.
