A more contagious strain of COVID-19, which spreads 50% faster than the summer variant, may have emerged in the United States. The White House task force reports.
“This fall and winter spike (in the epidemic) was nearly double the rate of increase in incidence during the spring and summer outbreaks. This acceleration suggests that the U.S. may have developed its own variant (of the coronavirus) in addition to the British species that is already spreading in our country,” the report said.
As reported, on December 14, Matt Hancock, head of the British Ministry of Health, said that British scientists have identified a new, mutated type of coronavirus that is spreading faster than known strains. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the new mutation of the coronavirus is 70% more contagious than other types of the virus.
