Europe called Trump a man of the past

U.S. President Donald Trump is considered a man of the past from an international point of view. This was stated by the President of the European Council Charles Michel on the air of the RTBF television channel.

According to him, the page of the American leader has already been turned. In doing so, Michel pointed to the serious consequences of the head of state's actions. “Cooperation has been very difficult. Trump withdrew from the Paris climate agreement, relations with NATO have been strained. As part of the difficult situation in the Middle East, the European Union tried to engage in dialogue with the United States, and it was extremely difficult. I could go on with examples one by one,” the European Council president said.

He deplored the Trump administration's behavior in the international arena. The Republican's actions gave the impression that “red lines were being crossed one by one” and culminated in riots at the Capitol.

According to Michel, President-elect Joe Biden's team has work to do to unite the nation. “Our perspective is to resume a closer dialogue and alliance based on common values: democracy, the rule of law, freedom,” he concluded.

Earlier, former Austrian Foreign Minister Karin Kneissl suggested that Biden as U.S. president would be more friendly to European countries than Trump — but in general, the Democrat would continue the Republican course. According to her, in recent years the U.S. has begun to pursue a tougher policy toward the EU, although, in essence, it has not changed.
