German chancellor thinks Donald Trump has failed in his role as a loser
German Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel very much regrets the decision of the current U.S. President Donald Trump not to recognize the outcome of the election.
She said this in a video message posted on Twitter.
“We all saw disturbing pictures of the storming of Congress last night, those pictures made me angry and sad. And I'm sure I feel like most friends of the United States, millions of people who admire the American democratic tradition,” the chancellor said.
In Merkel's view, Trump should have accepted the results of the presidential election back in November.
“The basis of democracy is that there are winners and losers after the election. Both sides must play their roles with dignity and responsibility so that democracy itself remains a winner,” she added.
“It is tragic that people died because of the night's events. But the hope for me was that Congress continued to work through the night, and it is now clear that with the confirmation of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris' election victory, the United States will be opening a new chapter in its democracy in less than two weeks, as it should be,” Merkel summed up.
Recall that today the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives in a joint session approved Joe Biden's victory in the presidential election.
