Fluvastatin, which is used to treat hypercholesterolemia, can suppress the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. This is stated in a study by Swedish and German scientists published on the MEDRxiv portal.
Experts have come to the conclusion that this substance affects infected cells, suppressing the translation and replication of the coronavirus.
The scientists also noted that patients with COVID-19 who received statins had a more favorable clinical outcome.
In addition, the experts added that the research results indicate that there is no additional risk for people with coronavirus from fluvastatin, stressing that it may have a positive effect on the course of COVID-19.
It became known yesterday that Turkish scientists have developed a device capable of diagnosing COVID-19 in 10 seconds. The device was named Diagnovir. The device is capable of detecting coronavirus in saliva samples. The sample is mixed with a special solution and placed in the device, the optical system changes the color of the glow when COVID-19 is detected.
Earlier, on January 2, scientists found out which blood type owners have stronger immunity. According to the conclusions of experts, the blood group affects how the human body is able to produce interferon during a viral infection, which is directly related to the issues of the immune system. Interferons are proteins secreted by the cells of the body in response to the invasion of the virus, to bacterial substances and low molecular weight chemical compounds.
Scientists named carriers of IV blood group the most powerful in terms of interferon production. In the body of these people, the protein was well produced in 92% of the subjects.
