Putin and Merkel discussed the joint production of vaccines against COVID-19

During a telephone conversation, Russian President Vladimir Putin and German Chancellor Angela Merkel congratulated each other on the Christmas and New Year holidays, and also discussed the possibilities of jointly combating the COVID-19 pandemic. This was reported by the Kremlin press service.

“The issues of cooperation in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic were discussed, with an emphasis on possible prospects for joint production of vaccines,” the statement reads. It is specified that the parties agreed to maintain contact between the ministries of health and other specialized structures in the context of this topic.

During the conversation, Putin and Merkel also touched on a number of issues related to internal Ukrainian settlement.

Earlier it was reported that the Chancellor of Germany made a New Year's address and announced that she would no longer apply for her post. “Let me conclude with something personal: in nine months there will be elections to the Bundestag, in which I will not participate. Therefore, this is most likely the last time that I, as Federal Chancellor, can address you with a New Year's speech, ” she said.
