The Norwegians have refused to certify the Russian Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline due to new US sanctions. The company announced that it is scaling back support for the project.
The Norwegian organization Det Norske Veritas (DNV) GL has refused to issue a certification sheet for the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, which is required to start work.
вЂњDNV GL will cease all activities to inspect the Nord Stream 2 pipeline system in accordance with the sanctions and as long as these sanctions remain in place. We are implementing a plan to end our support for the project,вЂќ the company said.

Gazprom's subsidiary Nord Stream 2, which is building the gas pipeline, has not yet commented on the situation.
The U.S. sanctions took effect on January 1, 2021. They prohibit foreign companies from providing testing, inspection, and certification services for the Russian pipeline. Companies have been given a month to leave the project otherwise they will be subject to sanctions.
Earlier, the media reported that Nord Stream 2 may be completed by the end of 2021.
