The Iraqi Parliament supported the withdrawal of the U.S. military contingent from the territory of the country against the background of the aggravation, which resulted in the liquidation of the commander of the Iranian Al Quds Special Forces Kassem Suleimani near Baghdad.

According to Arabia, Iraqi parliamentarians voted in favor of a resolution obliging the government to ask Washington to withdraw its troops.

The initiative was put up for voting at an extraordinary session of parliament at the initiative of Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul Mahdi.

“Despite the internal and external challenges we may face, this remains the best thing for Iraq in principle and practice,” the head of government said.

Mahdi called the political assassination of Suleimani, as well as of Iraqi militia commander Abu Mahdi al-Mohandes, who was also killed by an American drone strike on the night of January 3.

The U.S. operation was conducted without permission from Baghdad, Iraqi Prime Minister said.

Recall that the Pentagon confirmed its responsibility for the attack, specifying that it was carried out by order of U.S. President Donald Trump. Moreover, Congress was not informed about this intention in advance — the White House has already notified about it post facto.

The airstrike was carried out a few days after the attempt to storm the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad. The White House was responsible for the incident in Tehran.
