The U.S. draft site collapsed because of rumors about World War III

The lists of citizens called up are published on the website of the Conscript Service. At the same time, the US Army is mainly equipped on a contractual basis.

The website of the United States Conscription Service collapsed due to the massive spread of disinformation and speculation on the subject of World War III. This was reported by CNN.

The site collapsed a few hours after the announcement that the commander of Iran's elite forces Kasem Suleimani was killed in an American airstrike by order of President Donald Trump. Hashtag #WorldWarIII was one of the most popular trends on Twitter on Friday.

The airstrike led to threats of retaliation by the Iranian government and escalation of tensions between the U.S. and Iran. On social networking sites, it raised fears about the war between the two countries and the possibility of another U.S. military conscription.

“Due to the spread of misinformation, our site is currently experiencing high levels of traffic,” the conscription service said on Twitter. “If you're trying to register or confirm registration, please try again later today as we're working to address this issue. We appreciate your patience,” the service said.

Under U.S. law, if mobilized, certain categories of citizens will be required to join the army, despite the fact that in the country since 1973, the service is exclusively on a contract basis.

Earlier, the media reported that the U.S. had struck north of Baghdad. The purpose of the attack was allegedly a motorcade of Shia militia vehicles "Al-Hashd al-Shaabi".
