The authorities of the UK and the European Union managed to agree on a Brexit deal after months of tense negotiations. This was stated by the correspondent of the Sky TV channel Joe Pike on his Twitter.
“BREAKING NEWS: 10 Downing Street source said” Deal reached, “he wrote. The journalist added that, according to another source, negotiations are still ongoing.
The UK officially left the European Union on 1 February. By the end of 2020, the parties agreed on a transitional period during which most of the EU laws will continue to operate in the United Kingdom, including trade rules. Before the end of the transition period, Brussels and London had to agree on the format of future relations and conclude a new trade agreement.
However, negotiations have repeatedly stalled. The British government has even said it is ready for Brexit without a deal with Brussels. If the parties fail to reach an agreement by the end of December, the UK will no longer be part of the common European market, which will lead to the introduction of customs borders between the country and the EU.
