Up to 25 culturally significant films are added to the US National Film Register each year.
The Dark Knight, Shrek, A Clockwork Orange, and some others were added to the National Register of American Films. The portal Variety reported about it.
As noted by the publication, getting on the list ensures that the tape will be preserved in accordance with the provisions of the National Film Preservation Act.
To qualify, a film must be “culturally, historically or aesthetically significant” and filmed at least ten years prior to entry on the register.
This year, 25 paintings were included in the list. In total, it contains 800 items.
Recall that the films selected by the US National Film Preservation Council are stored in the Library of Congress.
