Nuclear power plant accident in Finland

Due to a serious emergency at the NPP, the second power unit was shut down. According to the authorities, the radiation situation is normal.

In the Finnish city of Olkiluoto, an emergency situation occurred at a nuclear power plant, as a result of which the second power unit of the nuclear power plant was turned off. The authorities assure that the radiation situation is normal, there are no emissions. This was announced by the Finnish Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority (STUK).

“The Office of Radiation and Nuclear Safety (STUK) received information on December 10 at about 13.00 about a serious emergency at the second unit of the Olkiluoto nuclear power plant, which led to an emergency shutdown. Radiation from the nuclear power plant did not enter the environment, and the radiation situation in the environment is normal”, — the message says.

The station's owner, Teollisuuden Voima, said the incident was under investigation.

Earlier, nuclear power generation was stopped in Belarus. The turbine at the nuclear power plant was shut down due to the explosions of several voltage transformers at one of the units connected to the generator.

Let's add, Lithuania sent a protest to Belarus over the nuclear power plant. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania demands to stop the commissioning of the BelNPP until it meets the nuclear safety standards and environmental requirements.
