The US regulator has confirmed the claimed effectiveness of the coronavirus vaccine from Pfizer and BioNTech.
The US food and drug administration confirmed the effectiveness of 95% of the coronavirus vaccine from Pfizer and BioNTech, according to the office's website on Tuesday, December 8.
It is noted that this level of effectiveness is achieved seven days after the second dose of the vaccine.
“In the planned interim and final analyses, the effectiveness of the vaccine seven days after the second dose was 95% in participants without suspicion that they had had SARS-CoV-2 infection and more than 94% in the group of participants who had the disease,” the report says.
At the same time, after the first dose of the vaccine, its effectiveness is estimated at 82%, but it is not known whether the level of protection decreases three weeks after administration of the drug.
In severe cases of the disease, the first dose of the drug was effective in 88.9% of cases.
The vaccine belongs to a group of so-called gene vaccines that contain genetic information about the pathogen.
Recall that on November 20, Pfizer and Biotech filed a request for registration of a coronavirus vaccine in the United States.
