In the Czech Republic, a judge of the Supreme Court was detained on suspicion of corruption

Together with the judge of the Supreme Court in Prague, four more were detained. They face up to 12 years in prison.

In the Czech capital Prague on Saturday, December 5, a judge of the Supreme Court and four other people were detained. They are accused of bribery and abuse of office, said Prosecutor General of the Republic Lenka Bradachova.

“One of the detainees is a judge of the Supreme Court in Prague, another is a lawyer. All of them are accused of taking bribes, abuse of office, and legalization of proceeds from illegal activities,” the prosecutor general said.

Meanwhile, Czech Radio, referring to its sources, named the name of the detained Supreme Court judge — Zdenek Sovak.

It turned out that in 2003 he was temporarily suspended twice from his duties — for plagiarism and for driving while intoxicated, which led to an accident.

If the charges are proven, all detainees face imprisonment for up to 12 years.

Recall that in Austria, the ex-finance minister received eight years in prison for corruption. Karl-Heinz Grasser was found guilty of abuse of power and participation in bribery.

Prior to that, it was reported that a billionaire was detained in Slovakia on corruption charges for illegally obtaining data from secret wiretaps.
