Russia does not shine participation in the G8: the United States adopted a special bill
The House of Representatives of the US Congress adopted a bill aimed at preventing Russia from participating in the G7 meetings (an informal club uniting Britain, Germany, Italy, Canada, the United States, France, and Japan) and restoring the G8 format with the participation of the Russian Federation.
The document provides for a ban on the use of federal funds by the Washington administration in order to “support or facilitate Russia's participation in the G7 meetings and the restoration of the G8 with the participation of the Russian Federation.”
As a reminder, Russia was expelled from the G8 in March 2014, after the occupation of Crimea.
A year later, then German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said that the international community should create conditions for Russia to return to the G8, but the way there lies only through the settlement of the conflict in Ukraine.
