American company Amazon, one of the world leaders in e-commerce, has unveiled a new section on its website and a mobile application called Amazon Pharmacy, which allows you to order medicines, including prescription medicines.
Payment for orders can be made through the customer's health insurance. The company has also granted those who participate in the Prime Benefit and do not use insurance the right to discounts on generic and branded drugs available on its website.
This news led to the collapse of the shares of the owners of traditional pharmacy chains. For example, the shares of the American retail corporation CVS Pharmacy fell 7.8%. The loss of shares in the world's largest pharmacy company Walgreens Boots was 10.1%.
Amazon can now compete not only with drugstore chains but also large prescription drug stores like Walmart.
