Turkey “slapped” Google with a huge fine: what is the reason

Ankara believes that the corporation has abused its position in the market

The Turkish antitrust regulator has fined the American technology corporation Google 25.6 million dollars (196.7 million Turkish lira), having found it guilty of “unfair behavior.”

Reported by Anadolu.

The corresponding decision was made by the Turkish Competition Council on November 13 based on an investigation against Alphabet Inc. and its subsidiaries Google Reklamcilik ve Pazarlama, Google International LLC, Google LLC, and Google Ireland Limited.

They were found guilty of “abusing their dominant position in the general search engine market” and, accordingly, violating the Law on the Protection of Competition.

Recall that last year, the United States fined Facebook $5 billion for collecting confidential user data
