US President Donald Trump has imposed new restrictions on Chinese companies. This is reported by the decree of the head of the state.
According to the document, from January 11, 2021, American citizens and companies are prohibited from buying any securities of firms associated with the Chinese military. The text of the decree states that China is increasingly exploiting American capital to help modernize its armed forces and intelligence services. It also notes that this allows the PRC to threaten the United States and its forces overseas by developing weapons of mass destruction, advanced conventional weapons, and carrying out cyberattacks against the American people.
Earlier, the US President's National Security Advisor Robert O'Brien accused China of violating international obligations in Hong Kong and promised to introduce new sanctions. He stated that the Chinese Communist Party has openly violated its international obligations in accordance with the Sino-British Joint Declaration and its promises to the people of Hong Kong, including in accordance with the basic law.
