The upcoming resignation of Mark Esper was reported by the American media last week
A few days after US media reported on the upcoming resignation of US Secretary of Defense Mark Esper, President Donald Trump officially confirmed the rumors.
The head of the White House announced his dismissal on November 9 on his Twitter page.
“The powers of Mark Esper have been terminated. I want to thank him for his service,” Trump wrote.
Instead of Esper, who was only appointed to his post last July, Christopher Miller, director of the US National Counterterrorism Center, has been appointed acting head of the Pentagon.
Trump noted that Miller's candidacy has already been approved by the Senate. The candidate will start fulfilling his duties immediately and “will do an excellent job with his job,” the president said.
We will remind you that the NBC TV channel reported that Esper prepared a letter of resignation on November 6. Allegedly, his intention is related to Trump's plans to fire him after the general election. However, on the same day, Pentagon spokesman Jonathan Hoffman denied this.
