Experts have named the cause of blood clots in coronavirus
Scientists have named a new cause of blood clots in patients with coronavirus. A study by specialists from the Frankel Heart Center of Michigan was published in the journal Science Translational Medicine.
The experts analyzed blood serum samples from coronavirus patients. In half of the samples, they found autoantibodies associated with higher platelet counts and increased blood clotting. According to them, the effect of autoantibodies on increased thrombus formation in COVID came as a surprise.
Previously, this mechanism was observed only in very rare antiphospholipid syndrome.
