An American drone strike killed 15 al-Qaeda leaders, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.
The US Air Force launched a strike in the Syrian province of Idlib on a group of leaders of the Al-Qaeda terrorist group. This was announced by the representative of the Central Command (CENTCOM) of the US Armed Forces Beth Riordan.
“The elimination of these al-Qaeda leaders” will disrupt the terrorist organization's ability to further prepare and carry out global attacks that threaten US citizens, our partners, and innocent civilians, “the statement said.
At the same time, Riordan did not specify the number of those killed. But according to the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), the strike came from a drone. Fifteen people were killed, including a militant who was previously responsible for security in the ranks of the Islamic State and sided with the Islamist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, as well as one civilian. Several people were injured.
The blow, according to human rights activists, was struck when the militants gathered for a feast in the village of Jakarta near the town of Salkin, near the Syrian-Turkish border.
We will remind, the armed conflict in Syria has been going on since 2011. During this time, about 400 thousand people died, almost 7 million refugees left the country, but some of them have already returned.
