Chinese companies oppose NVIDIA's purchase of ARM
Earlier, in September 2020, NVIDIA announced its plans to buy the architect of modern ARM mobile processors. The deal was to amount to $40 billion. As it turned out, not that everyone was happy about this event. For example, Huawei and other Chinese companies are quite firmly opposed to the purchase.
They expressed their concern about the deal, citing the fact that by buying ARM, NVIDIA provides the United States with almost limitless leverage on Chinese companies, Bloomberg reports. Huawei, along with other local market players, has turned to local regulators to cancel the deal or impose conditions that will prevent US authorities from restricting access to ARM technologies.
Recall that many modern smartphones use processors based on the architecture created by ARM. And we are talking about both solutions from Qualcomm and MediaTek products.
