Biomass made the most fire-resistant plastic




Sourcing plastic from renewable biomass sources, such as recycled food waste, is an attractive idea for all green people. However, this method has a limitation — bioplastic has poor thermal resistance. It looks like researchers from Japan have found a way out.

Specialists have learned to obtain aromatic polymers with the highest level of fire resistance from cellulosic biomass.

The new organic plastic has thermal stability, that is, the ability to retain its properties when the temperature rises to at least 740 degrees Celsius. The material was created from raw materials without the use of heavy inorganic fillers, which means that it is light in itself. It is expected that the use of such plastic will reduce the damage that humans do to nature.
