Spouses from the American state of Indiana cheated Amazon online store for 1.2 million dollars. This is reported by Fox Business.
Erin and Leah Finance created hundreds of false accounts to order electronic devices. They purchased, in particular, a GoPro camera, a Samsung “smart” watch, and Microsoft Xbox consoles. After that, the couple reported a technical malfunction and Amazon sent them a replacement.
At the same time, the spouses never returned the allegedly defective goods to the store. Instead, they sold the equipment at below-market prices.
The couple now faces a penalty of up to 20 years in prison. Also, each of them must pay a fine of 500 thousand dollars each. In addition, the Finans must return the stolen amount to Amazon. The couple pleaded guilty and waived the right to appeal against the court decision if they are sentenced to less than seven years and three months in prison. The court will hand down its final verdict on November 9.
