Trump wants to withdraw US troops from Somalia

US President Donald Trump plans to withdraw the US military from Somalia.

Bloomberg reports.

According to media reports, Trump turned to his advisers and recalled that he promised to return the military to the United States before the elections.

National Security Adviser Robert O'Brien, Secretary of Defense Mark Esper, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milli are tackling the issue.

There are now 650 to 800 US troops in Somalia. They help local authorities to fight the radical Islamist group Al-Shabab.

Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi said he would like American troops to stay.

“We really appreciate the support of the United States, and we are grateful for what they have done, and we would like the troops to remain until the work is 100% complete,” Abdullahi said.

Earlier we wrote that the United States transferred troops from Iraq to Syria.
