Unmanned “sea trains” will be created in the USA
As it became known, the Office of Advanced Research Projects of the US Defense Ministry has chosen the company to create unmanned “sea trains” It was the shipbuilding company Gibbs & Cox, which began its activities back in 1922.
Note that “sea trains” are called convoys of unmanned long-distance vessels, the main task of which is army supply. In turn, Gibbs & Cox specialists already have some experience in the design of such vessels, Naval News reports.
The publication also states that the first phase of the shipyard's work was estimated at $9.5 million. Note that under the contract, Gibbs & Cox will create a full-fledged prototype of a mid-range robotic platform for transoceanic crossings. With its help, the American military intends to minimize the human factor when supplying the military at the remote US naval bases. As for the timing of the final implementation of the project, they have not yet been announced.
