The US intends to reduce the number of troops in Afghanistan to 2.5 thousand
The United States intends to reduce the number of its troops in Afghanistan to 2,500, said Robert O'Brien, the US president's national security adviser.
“When [US President Donald] Trump took office, more than 10,000 US troops were in Afghanistan. Today, less than 5 thousand military personnel remain there, and this number will be reduced to 2.5 thousand by the beginning of next year, ” the adviser said.
At the end of February this year, the United States and the radical Afghan Taliban movement signed a peace agreement for the first time in more than 18 years of war. According to the agreements, American troops are to leave Afghanistan 14 months after the deal is concluded.
