Cygnus spacecraft with cargo for ISS crew launched from the cosmodrome in the USA
The Antares launch vehicle with the Cygnus cargo spacecraft launched Friday from the Wallops Island, Virginia launch site in the Atlantic Ocean. The launch is broadcast on the website of the United States National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).
Cygnus is supposed to deliver about 3.6 tons of cargo to the International Space Station (ISS): food, necessities, equipment for the station, and instruments for scientific research.
This Cygnus flight is the third under a new NASA contract with Cygnus manufacturer Northrop Grumman. Until 2024, according to the agreement, at least six launches of cargo ships will be carried out. As part of the previous contract, 11 launches to the station were carried out, another one was unsuccessful.
