Sabah IV has ruled Kuwait since 2006. In recent months, he was undergoing treatment in the United States, where he underwent surgery.
During treatment in the United States at the age of 91, the Emir of Kuwait, Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah (Sabah IV), died, Kuwaiti TV reported on Tuesday, September 29.
"The Emir of Kuwait, His Majesty Sabah Al Ahmed As Sabah, has departed to Allah," said the Minister for Chancellery of the Emir Ali al-Jarah al-Sabah.
Emir has been undergoing medical treatment in the United States since the end of July after an operation.
Sabah IV ruled Kuwait since January 2006. Prior to that, he served as Prime Minister, and earlier for several decades headed the country's Foreign Ministry.
Until today, he was one of the oldest statesmen in the world.
Recall that in December 2018, the son of the founder of Saudi Arabia, Abdel Aziz Al Saud, and the brother of the current monarch, King Salman, Prince Talal Abdel Aziz Al Asad, died.
