Although even mid-budget Xiaomi smartphones abandon this practice
In the past few years, smartphones with OLED displays have been getting cheaper and cheaper. Considering how high-quality images can be with this new display type, it's surprising that Apple only started adopting this technology starting with the iPhone X. But what's even more surprising is that the company will continue to release iPhones with legacy IPS displays for about 5 years.
At least this follows from the words of Chen Jun, chief analyst at Qunzhi Consulting. The specialist said that Sharp is now becoming the main supplier of IPS-displays for Apple. It looks like the company is making screens for cheaper devices than flagship numbered iPhones like the iPhone SE (2020). And similar devices will be produced in the next 3-5 years.
The latest leaks claim that absolutely the entire iPhone 12 lineup will receive OLED displays, while the current iPhone 11 is still equipped with an IPS display.
