Possible successor to Merkel backs freeze on Nord Stream 2
German politician Friedrich Merz, who is a candidate for the chair of the CDU party and thus can replace Angela Merkel as German Chancellor, supported the idea of freezing the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline.
Speaking at an event of the youth wing of the CDU in Lower Saxony, Merz said that it is necessary to impose a moratorium on the construction of Nord Stream-2 in order not to be too dependent on the energy supply either from the Americans or from Russian gas.
