The authorities of the federal state of North Rhine-Westphalia have canceled the mass events of the next carnival season, starting on November 11, primarily processions, street festivities, and celebrations in pubs write dw.com.
“Carnival as we know it will not be possible during a pandemic,” explained Nathanael Lipinski, head of the State Prime Minister's Office (State Chancellery) in Dusseldorf, on Friday, September 19, at a meeting with the organizers of the carnival festivities.
According to him, in such conditions, only those events can be allowed at which epidemiological requirements can be observed, including hygiene rules and a social distance of 1.5 meters between participants. The official suggested that this year celebrate the carnival with the family, without going outside.
In turn, the president of the Cologne carnival Christoph Kuckelkorn said that with strict hygienic precautions and a sharply limited number of participants, it becomes almost impossible to hold large carnival celebrations.
