Oracle has a day to buy TikTok
Starting Sunday, September 20, all transactions and services on the TikTok and WeChat mobile apps will be banned for US businesses. Reported by the US Department of Commerce.
“The current ban will make it impossible for American users to access these applications and will significantly reduce their functionality,” the statement said.
The ban means, among other things, that Apple and Google will have to remove the apps from their online stores.
It is unclear from the text of the statement whether the US government will agree to approve the purchase of a minority stake in TikTok by the US company Oracle.
If the deal is not finalized by the end of Saturday, it would mean that US President Donald Trump will be able to implement the threat and completely ban apps in the country.
Trump, by his August 6 decree, set aside 45 days for any of the American companies to fully buy out TikTok. The deadline expires on September 20.
According to the presidential administration, the owners of TikTok and WeChat applications, Chinese companies ByteDance and Tencent, are transferring data of American users to Chinese special services.
