The former presidential candidate in Belarus announced the opposition's intention to continue holding protest actions in the republic.
The leader of the opposition of Belarus Svetlana Tikhanovskaya said that the refusal of Alexander Lukashenko from power is only a matter of time.
She wrote about this in her article for The Washington Post, which was published on Monday, September 14.
“We, as a country, have passed the point of no return. Lukashenko has no future as the leader of this country, and his departure from power is only a matter of time,” Tikhanovskaya said.
According to her, “despite the state propaganda,” time is on the side of the opposition.
“This regime is a colossus with feet of clay,” wrote the former presidential candidate of Belarus.
The oppositionist confirmed that she still does not recognize the results of the presidential elections, which were announced by the republic's Central Election Commission, and believes that it was she who won the majority of votes.
“As a candidate from the opposition movement, I received the majority of votes in the presidential elections on August 9,” she said.
Tikhanovskaya said that the opposition will continue to hold protests in the country, and also appealed to the governments of other countries to “stop cooperation with the regime and impose sanctions on persons who falsified the election results and committed crimes against their citizens” and warned that all agreements other countries conclude with the current government “at their own peril and risk.”
“We cannot guarantee that the future lawfully and freely elected government will adhere to such agreements,” Tikhanovskaya wrote.
Earlier, the leader of the opposition of Belarus, Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, turned to Russian President Vladimir Putin in connection with his meeting with the current Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko.
