The head of the Bundestag Committee on Economics and Energy, Klaus Ernst, considered the calls to stop the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline a mistake.
According to Ernst, Seoverny Stream 2 should ensure the security of gas supplies to Europe. Therefore, to suspend the construction of the project is not in the interests of European countries. In his opinion, such a step could become “a blow to itself”, since many European companies are taking part in the construction.
Earlier in September, the German authorities did not rule out a change in attitude towards the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline and the introduction of sanctions against it because of the situation around Alexei Navalny. But so far the official authorities have not linked these events. At the same time, many German politicians urge Chancellor Angela Merkel to suspend the construction of the gas pipeline or completely abandon it.
