A report by the Attorney General of the United States Department of Justice, Michael Horowitz, about the reasons for starting surveillance of Donald Trump’s campaign staff during the 2016 campaign will be “historical.” This opinion was expressed on Friday by US President Donald Trump in an interview with Fox & Friends.

“A report will soon be published regarding the implementation of the Foreign Intelligence Observation Act (FISA) and it can be said to be historic,” Trump said. “That is the definition that is appropriate here.”

He did not specify exactly what data will be included in the report, but expressed confidence that this document would cause “the biggest scandal in history.”

Over the course of the year, the Inspector General of the Ministry of Justice investigated possible violations in the activities of the special court, which, in accordance with the provisions of the Foreign Intelligence Observation Act, authorized in 2016 to monitor the former adviser to the Trump campaign headquarters, Carter Page.

In particular, he considered the question of how the dossier of a former British intelligence agent, Christopher Steele, with unverified Trump compromising allegations was used as the basis for issuing a surveillance permit.

As Fox News noted, there is still no information on whether Page was the only Trump campaign headquarters officer to be monitored.

Trump and representatives of his administration have repeatedly accused U.S. intelligence officers of having spied on his campaign headquarters. The circumstances of the beginning of this surveillance became the subject of at least three separate proceedings by the US Department of Justice, which simultaneously serves as the Attorney General. Representatives of the administration called to find out if there were any violations during the investigation of special prosecutor Robert Muller.

Recall, at the end of October, The Washington Post reported that the verification of the circumstances of the start of Trump's US intelligence investigation in 2016 turned into a criminal proceeding. He is led by special prosecutor John Durham. He, for example, finds out on what grounds the American competent authorities launched a counter-intelligence investigation into Trump's actions in 2016. In addition, Durham clarifies the circumstances of the beginning of the investigation of Special Prosecutor Robert Muller.
