The former head of Volkswagen to stand trial

Martin Winterkorn has been charged with a conspiracy commercial fraud.

Almost five years after the "diesel scandal" that erupted over the car manufacturer Volkswagen, the state court in Braunschweig approved the lawsuit against the former head of the concern Martin Winterkorn and four other people. This was announced on Wednesday, September 9, by the judicial board for criminal cases.

Winterkorn is suspected of a conspiracy commercial fraud. According to the representatives of the court, there is a high probability of a conviction. A similar suspicion was brought against four former and still working employees of the concern.

Concern Volkswagen and the "diesel scandal"

In September 2015, Volkswagen management acknowledged that several million vehicles sold worldwide had software installed to manipulate engine compliance tests.

About 90 percent of car owners who have suffered as a result of manipulations have declared their desire to receive compensation from VW within the framework of “Diesel-Gate” in Germany alone. The automaker said it will pay 235,000 car owners in Germany in compensation totaling 750 million euros under the settlement agreement.
