Trump recalled that before the story of the alleged poisoning of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, he opposed Nord Stream 2.
The EU and Germany should abandon the Russian Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline after the alleged poisoning of Russian opposition leader Alexey Navalny. This was announced on Monday by US President Donald Trump at a press conference.
When asked by a journalist whether he agreed with the idea of abandoning this project in response to what happened to Navalny, the US President replied: “Of course, yes.”
Trump recalled that before the story with Navalny, he opposed this project. “You didn't even hear about Nord Stream 2 until Trump came,” he said.
Trump stressed that he was outraged that “Germany is concluding an agreement according to which it will pay Russia billions of dollars, and at the same time — we in NATO must protect Germany from Russia.”
As previously reported, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and her government do not intend to abandon Nord Stream 2 after the story of the alleged poisoning of Navalny.
