Brussels: Belarusian authorities continue to intimidate their citizens

European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell condemned the continuing “arbitrary and inexplicable” arrests and detentions of citizens on political grounds in Belarus.

According to him, the Belarusian authorities continue to intimidate their citizens in an increasingly illegal manner, grossly violating both their own laws and international obligations.

“The European Union will impose sanctions on those responsible for the violence, repression, and falsification of election results,” Borrel said in a statement circulated in Brussels on 7 September.
